Admissions

Admissions

The Lycée Français International de Delhi, established in 1956, is accredited by the French Ministry of Education and follows the French baccalaureate program. As a member school under the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), the school is part of a network of over 580 schools in more than 130 countries. Admission priority in the past favored students with French nationality and AEFE or Ministry of National Education contracts, but since 2018 Indian nationals have been welcomed; the school currently has about 270 students from 35 nationalities. Indian students are invited to apply before the academic year, which runs from September to June. The school invites Indian students to join and the environment is multicultural and international. Registration for the new academic year begins in March and continues until August; expatriate families may register year-round. The school accepts children from playschool (age 2+) up to Grade 12. Placement into a class follows the French Ministry guidelines by year of birth. Entrance tests are typically not required, and previous mark sheets are evaluated. Proficiency in French: Anglophone children may be admitted up to Grade 9 without French proficiency; beyond Grade 9, French proficiency is required because students take national-level exams, and non-French-speaking students are not admitted to Grade 10 onwards. French is the primary language of instruction across all grades, with dedicated French as a foreign language instruction at all levels; Anglophone students receive support to develop French to follow class instructions, a process that typically takes at least two years. Admission acceptance occurs after the admissions committee reviews the file; an admission invoice is issued by the accounts department, and admission is confirmed upon payment of the First Registration Fee (DPI). The DPI is non-refundable and is a one-time charge; if a child is withdrawn and later readmitted, the DPI is not reapplied. Tuition fees are invoiced in three installments: 40%, 35%, and 25%. To apply, review the admission criteria and class guide, contact the establishment secretariat to check seat availability (via email) and arrange a meeting if desired, prepare the required documents, then create an Eduka account to complete the application; the file is processed within two weeks if all information is complete, otherwise an email requests missing details. Some applicants may be required to take tests based on qualifications or French language skills. After review, a confirmation email and the DPI invoice are sent; the invoice is accessible in Eduka's Finance section, and the place is guaranteed upon DPI payment. Documents to provide include the student's passport or ID card, vaccination chart, transfer certificate/school leaving certificate, current and previous two years' mark sheets, birth certificate; guardians' passport or ID card. All documents must be uploaded through the Eduka admission portal.
