Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Bishop's School, Camp traces its foundation to 19 April 1864, when the Bombay Army Quartermaster General established a school for the sons of Warrant Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers, starting in an Old Barracks with about 15 pupils. It moved to its present site in 1868 after Khan Bahadur Pudumjee Pestonjee sold the property to the Lord Bishop of Bombay. In 1950 it was registered as a Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, and in the 1960s governance was reorganized into two separate societies, with Bishop's School and St. Mary's School becoming legal successors by 1969. Today it remains a minority-run Anglo-Indian institution that grew from a one-teacher, 15-pupil beginning to a large campus serving thousands of Bishopites.

Community

The Bishop's School, Camp has an active community life with a wide calendar of clubs and events. Founders' Day, Family Day, and an annual concert are part of school traditions, and alumni reunions are held such as the batch of 1973 reunion. The school also features a broad program of inter-class competitions and cultural activities, with reports and photographs documenting events in Debating, Quizzing, Music, Art, and Sports.
