AIS was founded in 2006 as an integrated kindergarten and elementary school in Nagoya. Its roots trace back to the Kamiyashiro English childcare program and Nagoya International Preschool, which opened in 2000 after the Kamiyashiro center began in 1993. In July 2006 the Kamiyashiro program was established as CAI, a social welfare corporation, and the Nagoya operation relocated to a site near Nijigaoka Park. AIS earned accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for kindergarten through grade 4 in 2008, and, after a 2013 Visiting Committee, accreditation extended through grade 6 with full reaccreditation in 2020. The first elementary graduates appeared in 2012, and by 2021 AIS graduates continued to enter international junior high schools and top Japanese schools. AIS will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2026.
AIS maintains a globally diverse community of students, teachers, and parents from various cultural backgrounds. The school offers a 100% English curriculum in kindergarten and a bilingual English–Japanese program in elementary, with about 70% of elementary instruction in English and 30% in Japanese. The community is described as richly diverse and family-inclusive, with open house days and opportunities for parents to engage in school life. Public-facing materials highlight events such as a Thanksgiving Lunch, earthquake safety drill, Halloween party, Spelling Bee, and a Global Star Festival, among other activities. Regular activities include Sports Day and Graduation ceremonies, reflecting an active school life that brings families together.
AIS public materials do not describe a separate Parent Teacher Association by name; instead, family involvement is integrated into school life through a calendar of events that engages students, parents and staff. Notable events include the November 2025 Thanksgiving Lunch and Tokai Earthquake Safety Drill, the 2025 Halloween Party, and 2025 Spelling Bee and Talent Show, as well as the 2025 Sports Day and Graduation ceremonies. Open House sessions for prospective families are offered, featuring information sessions, Q&A, and campus tours. These events demonstrate a collaborative, family-oriented approach to community life at AIS.
Aichi International School (AIS) is an integrated kindergarten and elementary school in Hoshigaoka, Nagoya, serving children aged 3–12. Kindergarten is taught in a 100% English immersion setting, and the elementary school (Grades 1–6) runs a bilingual program with approximately 70% of instruction in English and 30% in Japanese. AIS states its curriculum is tailored from guidelines set by Japan’s Ministry of Education and British Columbia, Canada. For assessment, AIS notes that Grades 3–6 take the International Schools’ Assessment (ISA) in English and Math, and students also sit EIKEN-based tests. After school, children can join language-learning and sports/culture options such as Japanese lessons, tea ceremony, drama club, soccer and computer club. The school is reachable by subway and bus, with Hoshigaoka Station within walking distance.
