English is the language of instruction across Clarence's core program, delivered through a text-rich English environment. The program is anchored in the British Early Years Foundation Stage framework, with language development embedded across the age range from Tiny Stars to Sunshine. A dedicated Japanese language program supports Japanese language development for school entry, including Hiragana and the four literacy skills, with a Beginner class for native Japanese speakers. Non-native English speakers may be assessed during admissions, but there is no formal ESL/EAL provision for Rainbow-class entry.
The Clarence International School Japanese Programme offers an immersion-style language experience for preschoolers to build Japanese for entry into Japanese schools and top Tokyo international schools. The program uses an arts-rich, culturally immersive approach and covers all four literacy skills, including Hiragana reading and writing. Timetabled after the main day, the program features segments such as Comprehension and Conversation, plus an English & The Art session that integrates language learning with the arts. There is a Beginner class for native Japanese speakers planning to enroll in Year 1 at Japanese elementary schools.
Clarence International School is a British international pre-prep school in Minami-Aoyama, described as being in the heart of Tokyo. It serves children from 18 months to 6 years old and follows the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the National Curriculum of England. Learning includes a strong arts component: the school highlights weekly music lessons with specialist teachers and visual art experiences such as sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. Outdoor learning is built in through frequent time in nearby parks and “Muddy Parks.” In the Rainbow class, children also begin structured technology learning, including typing, LEGO coding, Scratch and robotics. Beyond the school day, children can join termly clubs and the school states it operates its own bus service for routes and excursions.
