Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

The Nishikasai Campus runs Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) under GIIS Tokyo's 9GEMS holistic framework to extend learning beyond the classroom. An example is the CCA Open Day, which showcased practical experiences in singing, public speaking, story narration, journalism, music, speech and drama, dance (Bharatanatyam, Bollywood, Hip Hop), and instrumental lessons (guitar, pianica, tabla). Students also engage in art and crafts, paper folding, calligraphy, Ikebana, and science experiments as part of their co-curricular experiences. These activities are designed to strengthen language, leadership, and applied understanding of academic content beyond regular lessons.

Arts and Creative

The campus offers extensive arts and creative opportunities through CCA and school events. Performing arts are prominent, including singing, speech and drama, Bharatanatyam, Bollywood dance, and Hip Hop, with instrumental instruction in guitar, pianica, and tabla. Visual arts are supported with art and crafts, paper folding, calligraphy, and Ikebana, with 3‑D art and digital art exploration appearing in summer programs. These activities foster creativity, collaboration, and artistic expression beyond the classroom.

Cultural and Language

Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) is among the cultural activities highlighted at Nishikasai Campus. The CCA Open Day also featured other culturally rooted activities, such as traditional and contemporary dance forms and culturally themed games like Karuta. The GIIS Tokyo 9GEMS framework reinforces cross‑cultural exposure and language development through arts, community projects, and global perspectives.

Social and Hobbies

The CCA program includes social and hobby-based opportunities beyond academics. Dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Bollywood, and Hip Hop, as well as singing and drama, provide expressive outlets for students. Interactive games like IGO and Karuta promote social interaction and cross‑cultural exchange during CCA sessions. The Nishikasai Summer Camp offers age‑appropriate group activities, including singing, art, karate, and English language skills.

Community and Service

Community service and social responsibility are central to GIIS Tokyo's 9GEMS approach, with Entrepreneurship & Leadership and Community Care as key pillars. The campus engages in community-oriented activities and outreach opportunities as part of its holistic program. Events such as GIIS Tokyo University Fair illustrate student engagement with the broader community and higher education pathways.

Leadership and Professional

Leadership development is embedded in the 9GEMS framework, featuring Entrepreneurship & Leadership as a core pillar and mentoring and professional skills-building opportunities. University-facing events, like the GIIS Tokyo University Fair, provide exposure to higher education and potential career pathways. Career Counselling and University Guidance resources support students in planning post‑secondary studies.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Wellbeing and physical activity are emphasized through the 9GEMS framework's Sports Excellence pillar and year‑round events. The campus hosts sports and wellness activities as part of school life. The Summer Camp at Nishikasai includes karate, active group games, and other physical activities alongside art and STEM, promoting fitness and overall health.
