GIIS Tokyo began in 2006 at Nishikasai with an initial cohort of under 50 students. In 2014, the Nishikasai integrated campus opened on April 5, 2014, consolidating Nursery to Class 10 under one roof at 8-3-13 Nishikasai and welcoming involvement from parents and the local community. In September 2017, GIIS Tokyo officially launched a new High School Campus in Higashi Kasai, three kilometres from the original Nishikasai campus, expanding the school's footprint in Edogawa-ku. In April 2023, a fourth campus opened in Kita Kasai, with the Kita Kasai site announced to accommodate Kindergarten and Primary levels and capacity for 500+ students; the Kita Kasai campus was publicly described as the fourth GIIS Tokyo campus. As of 2023, GIIS Tokyo operates four campuses in Tokyo—Nishikasai (the flagship), Higashi Kasai, Seishincho, and Kita Kasai—serving a multi-national student body with CBSE, Cambridge, and IB curricula.
GIIS Tokyo's Nishikasai Campus sits in Edogawa-ku in eastern Tokyo and serves a multicultural community comprising Japanese locals and international families. The school's community events include cross-campus activities such as the International Day of Yoga, where around 130 parents from all four campuses joined GIIS Tokyo for the IDY celebration. A February 2023 CCA Open Day highlighted student talent across journalism, music, dance, art, and science, with proceeds from art sales supporting the UN Environment Programme. The school also engages with local institutions, as shown by a 2018 Annual Day visit to a municipal Junior High School in Tokyo, where GIIS students and parents participated in performances and tours of the partner school.
GIIS Tokyo maintains a formal Parent Engagement framework that includes Parent Ambassadors and Friends of GIIS who collaborate with the school and share positive community stories. Parents are kept involved through open communication channels, including the myGIIS portal, regular Parent Teacher Meetings, One-on-One Meetings, and weekly class updates. The school calendar features events such as Annual Day and Sports Day, with parents invited to participate and support students' efforts. Grandparents' Day is also observed, with grandparents participating in classroom activities and school programs. Parents often volunteer for logistical support and event coordination, and there are dedicated parent-facing events such as the CCA Open Day to showcase co-curricular activities to GIIS Tokyo parents.
GIIS Tokyo’s Nishikasai campus is in Edogawa-ku, in the eastern part of Tokyo, and offers the CBSE (Indian) curriculum for students in Grades 3–12. Classrooms are described as “digitalised,” reflecting the campus focus on technology-supported learning. The school highlights its 9 GEMS framework and places emphasis on both Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) and Co-Curricular Activities (CCA). Activities referenced in GIIS Tokyo materials include options such as tennis, karate, soccer, badminton and table tennis, alongside clubs like Science Club and Math Club. GIIS Tokyo also runs student-facing programmes such as Model United Nations (MUN).
