Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
1. Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation — HIS Niseko is a WASC-accredited international school, indicating it meets the standards set by the U.S.-based regional accrediting body for governance, curriculum, faculty, and student services. The school notes it is the only WASC-accredited international school in the Niseko region.
2. East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS) affiliation — The Niseko campus displays the EARCOS logo, signaling membership in the regional network that supports international schools through professional development and shared best practices.
3. Japan Council of International Schools (JCIS) affiliation — The Niseko site shows the JCIS logo, indicating participation in the Japan-wide international school network.
(Note: WIDA appears as a logo on the page as a language-support resource rather than an accreditation.)
2. Awards — The site does not publish school-level awards won in the last five years. Public pages focus on student awards at HIS Niseko events (for example, the 2025 Sports Banquet + Awards Ceremony, which recognizes student-athletes), rather than awards granted to the school itself.
Hokkaido International School Niseko is a private, not-for-profit, coeducational day school in Niseko Town, offering an English-language international education from Early Years through Grade 8. Learning in Kindergarten to Grade 5 is delivered through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), and Grades 6–8 use the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). Early Years is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. The campus integrates place-based learning by using Hokkaido’s history, geography and natural environment as an extension of the curriculum. Students also use Singapore Math (Math in Focus) from Kindergarten through Grade 6. A distinctive feature is the school’s outdoor programming, including a Niseko summer program with nature hikes and forestry, plus additional activities such as choir, botanical artmaking, cooking and gardening.
