Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

KIU Academy is governed by Kyoto International University, which began its history in 1996 after demerging from Phillips University Japan. KIU Academy's Elementary and Middle Schools opened in 1999 and High School in 2000, and the broader organization relocated to a new Kyotanabe campus in spring 2022. The student body grew from 7 at founding to 269 by April 2024. KIU Academy Niseko was accredited as a miscellaneous school in 2024 and opened its Niseko campus in 2025 to extend KIU's English–Japanese bilingual program to Hokkaido. The founder and president is Peter Blocksom.

Community

KIU Academy Niseko provides English-Japanese bilingual education. The school hosts admissions events and class-experience sessions for prospective families, including the School Information Meeting on May 31, 2025, with bilingual content for English and Japanese across Elementary, Middle/High, and University tracks. Alumni and parent testimonials illustrate ongoing community connections. The Niseko campus is used by Niseko Church for bilingual Sunday services, integrating the campus into local community life.

Parent-Teacher Association

KIU Academy Niseko does not publish a dedicated PTA on its public pages; parent involvement is described through school-hosted events rather than a separate PTA. The School Information Meeting for 2026-27 entrants was scheduled for May 31, 2025, and includes Elementary, Middle/High, and University track sessions. During the meetings there are classroom experiences for Grade 1 applicants and bilingual Q&A; babysitting is offered during the Elementary segment. Registration for the events is completed via linked online forms. Community connections extend to local organizations such as Niseko Church using the KIU Academy Niseko campus for bilingual Sunday services. Public testimonials from students and parents illustrate ongoing family involvement.
