Facilities Overview

TYIS uses a North American curriculum aligned with Common Core. The elementary program is taught in English. A science lab supports hands-on experiments in middle school. Co-curricular classes are provided once a week for all grade levels and include physical education, swimming, music, art, computer skills and Japanese. A heated pool is used for weekly swimming lessons. The campus is located at 2-2-20 Toyo, Koto-ku, Tokyo.

Academic Facilities

The TYIS curriculum is North American with Common Core alignment. Core subjects include Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Elementary education is taught in English. Co-curricular classes enrich the curriculum and include Japanese. Assessments use i‑Ready, Accelerated Reader, and MAP Growth, with progress shared through report cards, blogs, and Parent/Teacher Conferences. The high school program is modeled after a U.S. high school experience, with a dual track in math and science, university guidance and SAT prep, plus outdoor education camps and service-learning opportunities.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Co-curricular classes are provided once a week for all grade levels and include physical education, swimming, music, art, computer skills and Japanese. TYIS hosts a variety of social and life-skill activities throughout the year, including fall and ski camps, a science fair, a science field trip to a Japanese school, an all-school spelling bee, a talent show, Sports Day, and a seasonal spring concert, plus a core values program. The middle school conducts hands-on activities such as a three-day outdoor camping trip to Lake Nojiri, and students participate in service-learning projects. These experiences are designed to develop leadership, collaboration and real-world skills.

Tokyo YMCA International School (TYIS) is an English-language international school in Koto-ku, Tokyo, near Toyocho Station (Tozai Line). In elementary, core subjects are structured around North American content standards, and TYIS also offers Academic Support for Kids (ASK) for students who need additional academic or language support.
