International Community School was founded in 1953 as a primary school for the children of British military members based in Amman, with Prince Hassan bin Talal among its early students. It moved in 1980 to Wasfi Al Tal Street, Khalda, to serve a growing expatriate community. The school added a secondary section in 1989 and celebrated its first GCSE results in 1997. In 2009 ICS relocated to a purpose-built campus in the Na'our area (Um al Basatin), officially opened by Prince Hassan bin Talal, where the school remains today.
ICS enrolls students aged 3–18 from more than 60 nationalities, creating a diverse, international learning community. It operates as a not-for-profit, private, parent-governed school with royal patrons and a governance board that includes parent representation. Community life features events such as the ICS Winter Fair and PSA monthly social gatherings, as well as a broad enrichment program including Bayt Al Hikma, which connects students with history and ideas. The school emphasizes intercultural learning and global citizenship as core aims of the community.
ICS is a not-for-profit, private, parent-governed institution. The Society for the International Community in Jordan (SICJ) acts as the governing body, with nine Parent Governors elected every two years to form the Parent Board of Governors. Parents engage through the Parents' Hub and participate in school governance alongside staff. Royal patrons HRH Prince Hassan bin Talal and HRH Princess Sarvath El Hassan have supported ICS since its inception, reinforcing family involvement in the school. Regular parent-facing activities include the PSA monthly social gatherings and the Winter Fair, and the Bayt Al Hikma enrichment program provides leadership and cross-curricular opportunities for families and students alike.
