King's Academy opened in 2007 as a private, co-educational boarding and day school for grades 7–12 on a 575-dunum (144-acre) campus near Madaba. The founding followed His Majesty King Abdullah II's interest in establishing a Jordanian boarding school after his Deerfield Academy experience; a planning team was formed and a founding board established in 2004, with Dr. Eric Widmer named founding headmaster and a ground-breaking ceremony held that year. The school is rooted in the New England boarding-school tradition and pursued international alliances, hosting a G20 group of select schools in 2007 (the headmaster attended the first meeting in spring 2006). It has been accredited by NEASC since 2011.
The King's Academy community is international, drawing students from around 45 countries. It supports a wide range of co-curricular and leadership activities, including Jordan Model Parliament (JMP) and cultural performances such as Dabkeh: A Dance for All, reflecting a focus on global citizenship and cross-cultural engagement. Parent involvement is active in events such as the annual career fair, organized by the Advancement Office in collaboration with the Parent Council.
The King's Academy Parent Council was founded in 2013 as a formal body of parent volunteers who represent the school community and assist with fundraising. The Council serves as a voice for parents and as a sounding board for the Head of School, with elected and appointed members representing each grade. Regional parent groups exist, including the Chinese Parents Association established in 2016 to engage Chinese families. The Parent Council has organized events such as the third annual career fair (2022) and supports additional parent-led activities and guest speaker programs. The school documents the Council's structure and activities on its site, highlighting ongoing parent engagement.
