Model United Nations is offered at NES. NES-MUN students hold conferences and visit other schools to discuss and debate important global matters, including world politics and the environment. The NES library hosts debates as part of student life, supporting critical thinking and public speaking.
The arts program emphasizes performing arts. The facilities include a fully-equipped theatre with seating capacity of 350, as well as drama, dance and music studios. There are purpose-built art rooms including a ceramics room, enabling practical art and performance activities.
The New English School has a culturally diverse student body with 39 nationalities. Model United Nations provides opportunities to engage in cross-cultural dialogue and global issues. House activities include Poetry, General Knowledge, and events such as Book Week to broaden cultural literacy. The school offers an English Only Stream as an English-language option.
The NES Sports Club offers Football, Basketball, Jiu-jitsu, Swimming and Gymnastics. Athletes are welcome to join more than one club. Private classes are offered to athletes. The NES Sports Club aims to create a new generation of young athletes and to encourage participation.
Elections take place every year for the members of the Student Council to be chosen by students themselves. The Student Leadership Team is another group with seven influential, responsible and confident seniors who are nominated by the faculty. Together, these two bodies initiate and lead the students activities that include awareness campaigns, community service and fun days.
A full-time Guidance Counsellor is employed by the School to help years 12 and 13 students with their college options and applications. The counsellor also advises the students on choices pertinent to careers and majors, while acting as a liaison between the students and the college of their choice. This supports university readiness and career planning.
