Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

West Nairobi School was founded in September 1996 by the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) to provide a North American Christian education in Nairobi. It opened with 42 students in kindergarten through eighth grade, renting a facility on Argwings Kodhek Road in Kilimani and starting a small high school boarding program soon after. In March 2000 the school moved to its permanent facilities on Miotoni Lane in Karen and graduated its first senior class that year. West Nairobi School joined the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) in 2003 and today serves children from diplomats, expatriates, Kenyan families, and missionaries with a North American curriculum. It is accredited by MSA-CESS and ACSI.

Community

West Nairobi School's community emphasizes service and partnership. The Community Service program teaches students to serve with a Christlike attitude and to become servant leaders through community development outreach and acts of practical love. PAW – Parents Active at West Nairobi School – is a dedicated group of volunteer parents who foster connections and support for the school, organizing fundraising events, field trips, and seminars on topics like child development and parenting. Friends of WNS are partners who support the school through sponsorships, donations, and community engagement with organizations such as Peggy Scott Foundation, EMI, Heshima Foundation and others.

Parent-Teacher Association

PAW – Parents Active at West Nairobi School – is a dedicated group of volunteer parents who foster connections and support for the school. They organize and volunteer for school activities such as fundraising events, field trips, and extracurricular activities, and host informative seminars on child development, educational trends, mental health, and parenting strategies. PAW also collects feedback from parents to inform the school administration and strengthen the partnership between parents and the school. By joining PAW, parents connect with other families and contribute to a network that supports the entire school community.
