Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

NAS provides a safe, nurturing, and active environment that supports social and emotional development. It feels like a family with small class sizes and a low student–teacher ratio that enables personalized guidance. NAS teaches tri-lingual education in English, German, and Arabic, which promotes intercultural understanding and respect within a diverse community. A student-centered philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, responsibility, independence, and strong character values such as integrity, equity, and respect. The school supports well-being and positive relationships through daily access to counselors, who provide individual and group counseling and coordinate with the Child Study Team to plan interventions. NAS fosters collaboration between home and school, underpinned by trust and open communication.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

NAS provides in-class learning support and small-group assistance (1–4 hours per week) for students identified as needing help with grade-level work. A Learning Support team delivers these supports within the classroom setting and in small groups, with occasional one-to-one help. NAS does not provide a full Special Education Program, extensive language remediation, significantly modified curricula, or large numbers of one-to-one educational assistants. Documentation of a Learning Disability may enable some accommodations such as preferential seating and test-proctoring, and NAS counselors can refer families to local professionals. Counselors work with the Child Study Team to plan interventions when appropriate.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

NAS offers a U.S. curriculum enriched with a tri-lingual program in Arabic, English, and German. German is taught as a core subject from KG1, and the curriculum integrates English Language Arts with German and Arabic involvement, aligning with Kuwait Ministry requirements for Arabic/Islamic Studies where applicable. The trilingual program is designed to prepare students for a globalized world by developing proficiency across English, German, and Arabic.

Mental Wellbeing

NAS provides mental wellbeing support through school counselors who are available for daily contact with students to help them adjust to home, peers, and school. Individual and group counseling sessions help identify problems and guide students toward resolution, with the Counselor Team collaborating with teachers and administrators. The Child Study Team provides intervention strategies and helps plan goals and interventions with input from parents and students. The school's holistic approach to student achievement includes attention to emotional and social well-being alongside academics.

Safeguarding

NAS states a policy of providing a safe, nurturing, and active environment for new students and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, or national origin. Health files are required for new and transferring students. Counselors provide daily contact with students to support safeguarding and wellbeing, and collaborate with the CST to plan interventions. The CST is comprised of Counselors, Teachers, Administration, and Support Specialists who work together to identify strengths, needs, and intervene accordingly. Counselors also provide surveillance and minimal screening and can refer families to local health and education professionals as needed.
