French and English are present in the language combinations taught across the MLF network. Arabic is also taught as part of language combinations (for example, French + Arabic + English). Other languages such as Spanish and German may appear in certain contexts within the network. The policy distinguishes between languages used for schooling and languages used for education, supporting plurilingual learning.
GLFL follows the Mission Laïque Française language policy, which supports bilingual and plurilingual education. The policy describes bilingual teaching through DNL (discipline non linguistique) in a foreign language and recognizes CLIL and EMILE as approaches for teaching one or more subjects in a language other than the language of schooling. The policy notes that languages can serve as languages of schooling or as languages for education, enabling multiple language configurations within the school network. Examples show language combinations that include French and English, with English taught as a separate language and sometimes used as a medium of instruction in certain contexts.
Bilingual teaching in GLFL can involve teaching some subjects in a foreign language through CLIL/EMILE approaches. Language combinations include French and English, with English taught alongside French. In some combinations, English is taught as an additional language rather than the medium of instruction. The MLF language policy supports immersion-like practices in designated contexts across its network.
The Grand Lycée Franco-Libanais (GLFL) is a Mission Laïque Française-contracted school in Lebanon, part of the MLF AEFE network. It blends the French curriculum with Lebanese programs, preparing students for the Lebanese Brevet, the Diplôme National du Brevet, the French Baccalaureate, and the French International Baccalaureate (BFI). In collège and lycée, Seconde and above follow official French programs with a Lebanese Complementary Program; the OIB is offered from Seconde, emphasising Arabic. Optional LV3 languages include Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, Latin; plus Cinema-Audiovisuel and Arts Plastiques. Two hours of targeted study support, Pronote progress tracking, and an Orientation Service aid students and families. The campus hosts more than 12 sports fields and a swimming pool for around 2,700 students, with CCC libraries and tri-lingual resources enriching learning. The school fosters bilingual and intercultural understanding through projects, parental involvement, a dedicated guidance service, and a climate of respect and curiosity across classrooms.
