Academics

Ecole Internationale Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette - Differdange Primary Campus teaches European Baccalaureate for students aged 4 to 18.

Curriculum

The nursery school (Early Education) and primary school at the École Internationale Differdange & Esch-sur-Alzette support pupils from the very beginning of their school career in a multilingual and multicultural environment, in accordance with the educational framework of the European Schools system. Early Education comprises two years of schooling for children aged four on 1 September, and Primary school comprises five years for children aged six on 1 September, providing structured progression in fundamental learning. In primary, pupils have two language sections: French and English. From the first year of primary (P1), pupils choose their language section; apart from language classes, all subjects are taught in the language of the section. Language 1 (L1) can be French, English, German, Portuguese, Spanish or Italian; Language 2 (L2) can be French, English or German, and L2 must differ from L1. One of L1 or L2 languages must be the language of the section chosen: French for the French language section, English for the English language section, and German for the German language section. Luxembourgish is compulsory for all pupils as an integration language in primary school and in the lower classes of secondary, the preparatory program and integration classes.
Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Educational and Psychosocial Department supports pupils in their academic, personal and social development and promotes their well-being, fulfilment and inclusion. It uses a comprehensive, preventive and inclusive approach in line with the 2023 law on well-being and inclusion in education. The department aims to create a safe, caring and inclusive school environment, to support pupils facing personal, social, psychological or academic difficulties, and to promote well-being, socio-emotional skills and civic participation. It works with teaching staff, families and internal and external partners to continuously improve practices. The department's services—SePAS, SSE, ESEB, COIS and the Student Protection Officer (DPE)—operate in a coordinated, complementary manner to support students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Special Needs Support Team (ESEB) supports pupils with special educational needs, particularly those with learning, attention, behavioural or communication difficulties. ESEB promotes well-being, development, academic success and inclusion by considering each pupil's individual needs, resources and school context. It identifies and analyses students' needs in collaboration with teaching staff, families and relevant services, and contributes to implementing support measures and accommodations to promote access to learning and participation in school life. It observes classes and, where necessary, offers targeted educational support, either individually or in groups, and advises teaching teams on differentiation and adaptations. It coordinates exchanges between the school, families and external professionals and organizes information workshops on specific needs and inclusion. ESEB's multidisciplinary team includes psychologists, remedial teachers, educators and specialised teachers and works with the school to ensure inclusive education.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school provides multilingual education with English, French and German sections. English-speaking Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette classes are available, and Luxembourgish is compulsory for all students from M1 to S3.

Mental Wellbeing

SePAS supports pupils and families in the personal, social, emotional and educational aspects of the educational journey, promoting well-being and inclusion. It operates under a preventive approach aligned with the 2023 law on well-being and inclusion in education. SePAS focuses on mental health, prevention of discrimination or harassment, and development of socio-emotional skills. SSE contributes to well-being through daily social and emotional development and prevention initiatives and by coordinating after-school and extracurricular activities. Together, these services promote a caring and supportive school climate that supports students' well-being.

Safeguarding

The Student Protection Officer (DPE) ensures respect for children's rights within the school and contributes to a safe, respectful and protective environment. The DPE acts as a reference person for students, families and school professionals on safeguarding matters. Two members of the educational and psychosocial team carry out the DPE role (one from SSE and one from SePAS) and work jointly with school management and the relevant services. The DPE promotes and defends children's rights and contributes to protecting students, particularly in situations of vulnerability or risk. It informs and raises awareness within the school community through information and training on children's rights, and proposes improvements to procedures within the EPS and the school, in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
