Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The school is a state-funded secondary school in central Luxembourg City with over fifty years of operation. A Luxembourgish curriculum was taught for many years, leading to the Diplôme de fin d'études secondaires (1er ES). In response to Luxembourg's evolving, cosmopolitan population, Lycée Michel Lucius created an English-language international stream in 2011, which grew into Lycée│International School Michel Lucius serving students from over 70 nationalities. The International School now offers an English-language curriculum leading to IGCSE qualifications and A-Levels, while remaining integrated with the wider school. In 2017, the International School opened a primary section, initially in Belair and later moving to Limpertsberg, near the secondary campus. The school now has over 1,500 students and more than 150 teaching staff.

Community

The school has a Diversity Charter to create an inclusive environment where people from around the world feel welcome. It commits to respecting all members of the school community regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, ability, age, sexual orientation or identity. It aims to create a welcoming environment, embrace and promote diversity, and respect others' beliefs. It also commits to standing up against disrespectful behaviour and to learning from incidents when they occur.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parents' Committee represents the parents of pupils to the administration and to the committees formed by teachers and students. It informs parents of pupils on all matters related to teaching in the school. It organizes cultural and social activities and formulates proposals concerning the organization of teaching and pupil work. Composition includes Claudia Colantonio (President); Michel Krim (Vice-President and Treasurer); Ricky Wohl (Secretary); Corrado Branca; Yuka Sasaki; Pascale Hastert; Caroline Camisuli; Hasan Gödekoglu; Dilek Gödekoglu; Ekaterina Archipova; Stella Hristova; Ghislaine Nganso. The Parents' Committee can be contacted via its president at ape@edu.lml.lu.
