The school structure at DSKL encompasses Kindergarten (including one year of Preschool), a four-year Primary School, and an eight-year Secondary School. This covers students from kindergarten through to Grade 12.
The German School Kuala Lumpur is a co-educational school and does not offer boarding.
DSKL provides educational support for students with diverse learning needs. This support is integrated into the timetable through dedicated "focus band" sessions for Years 1 to 8, promoting subjects like German as a second language, mathematics, English, and French. The school offers special education for pupils with partial performance problems, such as reading and spelling difficulties, and autism, with detailed support policies in place. The school employ a specialist in special education for early identification, prevention, diagnosis, and inclusion, offering individualized support in small groups or one-to-one settings.
DSKL has a strong affiliation with Germany, being one of 140 German schools worldwide. It is funded by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA).

The school day at DSKL generally begins at 8:00 AM and concludes at 3:30 PM.

The German School Kuala Lumpur provides an optional school bus service for its students, managed by Tai Bus. The service covers several areas within the greater Kuala Lumpur region, including Ampang, KLCC, Desa Park City, Sungai Buloh, Petaling Jaya, TTDI, Mont Kiara, and surrounding vicinities.
The service aims for either door-to-door pick-up or convenient gathering points, and the buses are regularly maintained and equipped with seatbelts.

The German School Kuala Lumpur (DSKL) provides an education grounded in the German national curriculum, including the syllabus of the Federal State of Thuringia. Students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 can pursue recognized German qualifications like the Hauptschulabschluss, Realschulabschluss, and the German International Abitur (DIA), a university entrance qualification. The school offers a range of extracurricular activities for students from Year 3, including sports like football, badminton, and volleyball, as well as music lessons, arts and crafts (e.g., pottery), drama, and activities such as cooking and board games. A unique offering is the Guest Student Program, which provides scholarships and supervised housing for motivated students from Germany wishing to complete their Abitur or other qualifications in Kuala Lumpur.
