Language Provision

Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

English is taught from kindergarten as part of the French-program curriculum. An International Section was opened in September 2017 to integrate English more significantly across primary, secondary, and pre-primary levels. In 5e, students begin a second foreign language—German, Spanish, or Mandarin—and LV2 is compulsory and continues through the baccalaureate. Spanish, Mandarin, and German each offer distinct linguistic and cultural emphases: Spanish opens access to a broad cultural-linguistic field and is the official language of 21 countries with over 500 million speakers; Mandarin is a tonal language spoken by about one in seven people in the world and uses pictographic writing; German is rich in cultural contexts and is the official language of seven countries and the third official language of Europe.

Bilingual Teaching

The school provides English instruction from kindergarten alongside a French-program curriculum. The French-program is accredited by AEFE.

Immersion Programs

English is taught with daily immersion. From preschool, classes are taught by native English-speaking teachers from England, South Africa, Australia, and the USA. The English department holds an annual English Week and includes projects and events to make English engaging.

École du Centre - Collège Pierre Poivre is a private school in Helvetia, Saint Pierre, Mauritius, offering a French curriculum for ages 3 to 15. Founded in 1991, the school sits on a single campus near a sports complex, within a Mauritian setting. It is accredited by AEFE as a French-program establishment, and teaching follows the standards of the French Ministry of National Education. An AEFE agreement provides teacher secondments, inspection and advisory support, reinforcing educational excellence. The school combines a bilingual environment, with English taught by native speakers from early years, and celebrates Mauritian history and culture through uniforms, religious classes for those who wish, and local context. The International Section, opened in 2017, means most primary students receive English-language immersion. Notable features include a library, a science laboratory, a multipurpose hall, and integrated arts and culture projects with local and international artists, enriching both academic and creative development.
