Academic and Intellectual

École du Nord is a high-quality private international school, accredited by the French Ministry of National Education. For over 50 years, it has combined the rigour of the French education system with a unique emphasis on English-language instruction, offering the best of both educational worlds. It is certified as an international primary school in recognition of its enhanced English-language programme. The school welcomes students of all nationalities, from the age of 3 to 15, from nursery through to lower secondary, in Mauritius.

Arts and Creative

After-school activities include sports, arts & crafts and cultural learning, offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for students from Pre-K to Year 10, overseen by teachers or qualified guest teachers. Collective sports, tutoring, creative games, music, karate and chess are available, with something for everyone.

Cultural and Language

Language learning is a priority at École du Nord. A multilingual education helps students develop concentration, problem-solving abilities, and cross-cultural awareness. In kindergarten and primary, bilingual teaching in English and French is provided. In middle school, students may choose among Classic (French curriculum with English and additional language options including Latin), European Section in English, and British International Section with extensive English instruction; EDN also offers Spanish language certification and Latin.

Social and Hobbies

Extracurricular activities include after-school sports, arts & crafts and cultural learning, offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for Pre-K to Year 10, overseen by teachers or guest teachers. Collective sports, tutoring, creative games, music, karate and chess provide options for a broad range of interests.

Community and Service

L'Amicale des Parents (ADN) is a voluntary body of parents that helps families attending EDN. It acts as an intermediary between parents and the school's management team and participates in committee and work meetings with the Board and Management Committee. For several years, the ADN welcomes new students and teachers at events like school fairs, book exchanges, Easter egg hunts, and more.

Leadership and Professional

The School Board, chaired by the headmaster, deals with educational, pedagogical and material concerns and adopts the school project, internal rules, timetable and calendar, the annual educational plan and staff training. The board comprises 15 voting members drawn from administration, school staff and parents and students. The school council involves elected parent representatives (ADN) and welcomes student representatives to discuss and influence school life, including timetable, resources, discovery and exploration classes, and safety. The Commissions recruit volunteer parents with professional expertise to guide policy and practice.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

A healthy mind in a healthy body anchors the school's sports program, with yearly physical education plans and a path to sports excellence that includes external professionals. The school runs sports days, inter-school tournaments, and a wide range of activities such as rugby, football, volleyball, basketball, and handball, with cross-curricular events like endurance races and dance sports. There are opportunities to participate in events linked to performance and inclusion, including involvement with Olympic/Paralympic programs and a Generation 2024 label recognized by the French government.
