Higher Education Progression

University and college preparation helps students meet entrance requirements for specific programs, with graduates expected to complete ACT, SAT, and/or TOEFL and to perform 40 hours of community service to earn the diploma.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ASU emphasizes holistic development with a focus on social and emotional growth, alongside physical and academic development. The elementary program is guided by a community-focused theme that highlights social, emotional, physical, and academic growth. The school invites parents to participate in Coffee & Conversation meetings and Parent/Teacher meetings to foster a thriving learning community. The school's outcomes emphasize caring for others, respectful intercultural interactions, and the safety and health of self and others.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English proficiency is assessed using WIDA, which evaluates speaking, listening, reading, and writing. WIDA is used for admissions and placement for students in grades 6-8. MAP Growth measures reading, language usage and math, and is administered for grades 6-11. These tools help guide language support decisions and placement for English language learners.

Mental Wellbeing

ASU supports social-emotional growth as part of its holistic approach. The elementary principal's message emphasizes building a connected community that fosters social, emotional, physical, and academic growth. The Vision and Mission describe involvement, intercultural respect, and care for the safety and health of self and others. Together these elements contribute to students' mental wellbeing by creating a caring, collaborative learning environment.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is integrated into student outcomes, including the safety and health of self and others. The Vision and Mission advocate care for the environment and community and respectful interactions across cultures. The site identifies formal student support structures, such as Learning Commons and a Guidance Counselor within Secondary Student Support. Policies and practices implement safeguarding and child-protection principles to guide staff and student conduct.

Admissions

Admissions

ASU is a private educational facility that seeks to provide an international education in an English-speaking environment. ASU is an English-language school and all lessons, except Mongolian and Modern Foreign Languages, are delivered in English. Class sizes are limited to 24 students per classroom. Grade skipping is not permitted; students are placed based on their previous school report, testing results, and age requirements. A place cannot be held without re-registration payment and the signed School Agreement; siblings may receive early admission if they meet admission requirements. No application will be considered until the completed admissions documentation is received; full disclosure on application forms is required or the place may be terminated. Attendance is contingent on fee payment; no requests for specific class placements are accepted. For families applying with children in both elementary and secondary schools, a joint decision is made by Principals. If admitted and it is determined the student cannot meet criteria, registration will be withdrawn and unused tuition reimbursed. The admissions process requires complete documentation to be returned to the Student Services Office; upon receipt and payment of the application fee, the Office will set up testing. Every student must complete a language proficiency test; if discrepancies arise, a follow-up interview may be required; admission decisions are based on age-appropriateness, past academic results, a face-to-face interview, and the admissions tests. Once admitted, the Secondary School Coordinator/Principal signs the admissions approval forms and assigns the homeroom teacher and house color. The Student Services Office informs the family within 1–3 working days and, if accepted, informs the Finance Office to generate an invoice. Student Services also informs teaching staff of new admissions. The Language Policy requires students to meet Language Proficiency Benchmarks, with ESL support provided as needed. New entrants undergo testing in English proficiency, Math and other subjects as required; non-native English speakers or bilingual students must complete a language competency test, regardless of prior exposure. Age and mid-year enrollment policies specify grade eligibility by age; joining mid-year places the student in the next grade; full semester tuition is required for mid-year admissions. Admission for students with special needs is subject to the Principal's assessment that ASU can meet those needs; otherwise admission is denied. Waitlisting allows prospective students to be waitlisted when no place is available; waitlist priority is generally by order of application; parents are informed when materials are received.

Waitlist

Waitlisting allows prospective students to be waitlisted when no place is available for the grade; parents are informed of waitlist status once the required materials are received. Waitlist priority is generally by the order in which applications are received.
