Rato Bangala School was founded in 1992 by Director Shanta Dixit and Principal Milan Dixit as a Center of Excellence. It grew to become a leader in progressive education and a pioneer in improving the quality of instruction in private and government schools across Nepal. The school has been affiliated with Bank Street College of Education in New York since 1991, enabling the introduction and adaptation of progressive education practices in the Nepali context. The school emphasizes cooperative action, community service, critical thinking, and the development of confident, articulate individuals committed to social justice and development.

Parents at RBS: Rato Bangala works closely with parents, respects their important role and seeks wholehearted engagement and collaboration, believing that supportive parents help children reach their academic and social potential. Parents Representative: Two parents take the leadership role for one academic year to represent their child's class as the Parent Representatives to facilitate communication between home and the school. Faculty: The faculty create a nurturing environment for every learner from preschool through A Level and receive regular professional development. Rato Bangala School is a co-educational day school in Patan Dhoka, Nepal, that houses a teacher training institute. The curriculum progresses from Lower School through A-Levels, with Cambridge Assessment International Examinations Grades XI–XII. In early years, Language Arts are taught in Nepali and English alongside Social Studies, Science, Mathematics and Digital Literacy, with specialist teachers for ICT, Nepali, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Gymnastics and Martial Arts. Chinese is taught with the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, and Newari appears in Grade IV. Upper School emphasizes hands-on, project-based learning social-emotional growth, while A-Levels are delivered by a registered Cambridge Center NP704 and have produced high marks and Cambridge awards. Founded in 1992, the school champions progressive education through Bank Street College of Education links and a focus on social justice. Facilities include a library, STEAM Lab, five science labs, three computer labs, Art and Design rooms, wood workshop, Kamalmani Theater.
