Kupe's legend introduces our land's story, with Kupe reaching the Hokianga near Huanui and Ngāpuhi's Rahiri dividing the land that would become Pehiaweri and Glenbervie. In 1873 the Huanui farm was formed by the Hutchinson family, producing honey, dairy, beef, chaff, and orchard fruit. During World War II the area was briefly converted to a G5 army base. Huanui College was established on 8 February 2010 and officially opened on 10 March 2010 by the Honourable Heather Roy and Whangārei Mayor Stan Semenoff, with blessing from Reverend Hake Parata and local tāngata whenua of Pehiaweri Marae. The founder, Evan Hamlet, envisioned high-quality independent education and parental involvement.
