Languages is one of the eight learning areas in the New Zealand Curriculum, and each learning area has its own language or languages. English literacy is emphasised, and English is the medium for most learning in the NZ Curriculum. ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) support is available. In Years 7 and 8, students are required to take four different languages.
