Finland Oman School (FOS) was established as a joint venture between Oman Educational Services (OES), the owner of GUtech, and EduCluster Finland to bring Finnish education practices to Oman. The partnership was announced in 2017, with the first intake planned for the 2018/2019 academic year. The school opened in 2018/2019 for KG through Grade 9 under a bilingual Finnish-inspired model, with English as the language of instruction and Arabic taught. In 2025, FOS was authorized as an IB World School, expanding its offerings to include the International Baccalaureate program.
Finland Oman School builds a strong community through programs that connect parents, students, and teachers. The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) coordinates volunteering, facilitates clear communication, and serves as a voice for families within the school, helping to address challenges and translate ideas into actions. The school maintains a Student Council to ensure student voices are heard and to develop leadership. Environmental and well-being initiatives include Go Green with F.O.S., Schools on the Move, and a Joy of Reading program to promote literacy and lifelong learning. These elements support a bilingual, inclusive culture at the school.
The PTA acts as the liaison between parents, administration, and teachers to ensure every voice is heard. It strengthens the community through clear communication, volunteering opportunities, and collaborative problem-solving so challenges are addressed and ideas become actions. The PTA supports family involvement in school life, including participation in events and contributing to school initiatives. The PTA coordinates feedback and suggestions from parents to inform school decisions. The PTA works alongside the School Council and administration to sustain a cooperative, welcoming environment for students and families.
