Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Indian School Darsait was established in July 1992 as the KSBS stream of Indian School Muscat. It became an independent entity in 1994. It moved to its present premises in Darsait on 6 July 1998. In 2004, the school introduced a CBSE stream and KSBS was discontinued, establishing ISD as a CBSE-affiliated school. It was the first CBSE school outside India to be accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) of the Quality Council of India, and ISD celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 2017-18.

Community

ISD operates within the Indian community of Muscat and falls under the supervision of the Indian Embassy in Oman. The School Management Committee (SMC) is composed of eminent members of the Indian community and oversees the school's governance. ISD has hosted major community events, including the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 2017 with a cultural program involving other Indian schools and linguistic wings of the Indian Social Club Muscat. The school holds annual day celebrations and other cultural programs that involve dignitaries and parents, such as the 32nd Annual Day held on December 14, 2024, with the Ambassador of India to Oman as Chief Guest.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Indian School Darsait's governance rests with a School Management Committee (SMC) composed of eminent members of the Indian community that oversees the school's operations. The SMC leadership includes a President (Shalimar Moideen), a Vice President (Nishanth P. P.), a Convenor (Shebeer Shamsuddin), and a Treasurer (Ashraf V.), along with heads of several subcommittees. Subcommittees cover Alumni, Purchase, Finance & Planning, Infrastructure, Sports, Co-curricular and Cultural, Inclusive Education, and a Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching. A dedicated Head of Parent Relations Subcommittee coordinates parent engagement and serves as a liaison with the broader ISD parent community. ISD maintains a history of leadership dating back to 1994, documented in its records of SMC presidents. Parents participate in school events and activities, including Annual Day and Kindergarten Graduation Day, reflecting active parent involvement.
