The Panama Prep International School traces its roots to the San Estanislao School, founded in 1892 by D. José Olavarrieta y López. In 1902 there was an official recognition process for the college, and ownership changed in the 1930s, with the college renamed San Estanislao de Kostka in 1935 and then Numancia during the war. After World War II, the school introduced internal regulations, study trips, festivals, and the first transportation service; a new office on Arturo Soria Street was established in 1947; the 60th anniversary in 1952 marked the creation of the Medical Service and the Psychology Office. Beginning in 1980, SEK International Institution began international expansion, opening SEK Panamá in 1986 and pursuing further openings and acquisitions across the Americas and Europe, including Boca Prep International School (1999), Grantham Prep International (2004), and Cesário Verde International School (2022). The 125th anniversary was celebrated in 2017, and in 2025 Ms. Mónica Segovia assumed the presidency of SEK and IES with a global vision, with the construction of IES Regal Cairo beginning in 2025.
