DSBU is governed by a non-profit association established to found and promote the Deutsche Schule Bukarest. The association carries and leads the DSBU and is represented by the board and the general assembly. Each board member is elected for a two-year term. The board handles the financial, economic, and legal affairs of the school. Pedagogical content is the responsibility of the school leadership, and personnel matters are decided in agreement between the board and the school leadership.
DSBU is a place where intercultural encounters are lived in a bilingual life, experience, and learning space. Language and social competencies are developed; speaking one language helps understand the other culture, and both cultures are lived. DSBU offers traditions such as Martisor and Easter egg painting in workshops; The Christmas market is a yearly highlight; Public viewings of the European Championship and World Cup bring people together. Language proficiency is the key to academic success, and the German- and Romanian-recognized qualifications open opportunities for DSBU students in Germany, Romania, and worldwide.
The Parents' Council (Elternbeirat) is a democratic body representing the interests of all DSBU parents. It aims for respectful interaction to foster an atmosphere beneficial to children, staff, educators and parents. Its tasks include representing parents' interests toward DSBU, regular exchanges between school leadership, administration and the board, promoting intercultural understanding, and supporting DSBU by organizing events. Members participate in regular meetings in school committees or working groups and actively help shape events. Its goals include promoting transparency, ensuring trustful communication, fostering a satisfied school community, and using parental resources for DSBU. The Parents' Council includes groups for toddlers, kindergarten and school, with chairs and contact at Elternbeirat@dsbu.ro.
