The Lycée Français Anna de Noailles is the largest international secondary school in Romania. It was first founded by the Union of French Citizens in Romania (UFE) in 1920 and attached to the French Institute of Bucharest in 1939, before being shut down in 1949. It reopened in 1960 to welcome children of French embassy employees, and in 1990, after the regime collapsed, began admitting students from other nationalities. In 1998 the French School became the Lycée Français Anna de Noailles, and in 2013 it moved to its current location in the north of Bucharest. It is run by an officially recognised Romanian non-profit organisation bound by an agreement to the Agency of French Education Abroad (AEFE).
The school marks its 100th anniversary with a two-week event featuring sports activities with students and parents, an opening ceremony, and an art opening, followed by a closing ceremony. There is an annual school fair, and activities include participation in the Youth Olympic Games of Chicago, a football tournament with other Bucharest-area schools, and a Football World Cup in Dubai.
Located in Bucharest, Lycée Français Anna de Noailles is a French international school affiliated with AEFE and authorized by Romania's Ministry of Education. It delivers a French national curriculum from Très Petite Section to Terminale, leading to the Brevet and the French Baccalaureate. The primary language of instruction is French, with Romanian required and English and other European languages taught as living languages from early grades. The school also hosts the Section Internationale Américaine, providing bilingual instruction in literature and history. The campus opened in 2013 and features dedicated art and music rooms, science laboratories, a large stadium, a sport hall, a dojo, a dance studio, and two libraries serving different age groups. About 1,100 students enroll, drawn mainly from Romania and France, with a mix of nationalities.
