Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Deutsche Schule Belgrad was founded in 1854, and a kindergarten was added in 1856. Since then, the institution has relocated its Belgrade site several times and has continued to develop. Today, the school and kindergarten are located in the Belgrade district of Senjak. The language of instruction is German; Serbian is taught as both a national and a foreign language from the first grade, and the school serves students from 20 nationalities.

Community

The school maintains an active school life with an Alumni Network to stay connected with former students. Schulleben includes a library, the Alumni Network, and programs such as the Elterncafé. Yoga in the kindergarten and the school garden where produce is harvested are part of daily life. The school emphasizes democratic participation through class councils (Klassenrat) and the SMV, with ongoing collaboration with families.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Schulverein (School Association) is part of the school's governance bodies. The Elternbeirat (Parents' Council) participates in school life. The Schülermitverantwortung (SMV) is part of the governance structure as the student council. Elterncafé provides a forum for parent involvement in school life. Feste und Feiern (festivals and celebrations) and other activities are part of Schulleben, offering opportunities for parent participation through the governance structures.
