The school was founded in 1951 as a non-profit association of the students' parents. The statute is registered in Paris, France. The school signed a convention with AEFE on March 4, 1986, and has since been recognized by the French Ministry of Education. In November 2016, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia recognized it as a “foreign educational institution.” In June 2021, the French School in Belgrade became a Serbian entity independent of the Embassy; until then, it was a private school registered by the Embassy of France.
The French School in Belgrade is an international school certified by the French Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports, and a member of the AEFE network. It is a non-profit, private educational organization registered under Serbian law and financially managed by the Parents' Association, including all students' parents. It provides a multicultural environment where children can flourish in a pleasant setting, an individual approach focused on the well-being of each child, and a rich linguistic program – four languages for everyone. It operates on two sites: the preschool at 10 Sanje Živanovića Street (new location opened in 2021) and the primary, middle and high school at 31-35 Kablarska Street.
The French School of Belgrade is a parent-managed institution. Its development is based on the voluntary commitment of parents from the Parents' Association. By enrolling their children in the school, all parents become legal members of the Association. The parents' association aims to unite parents around the educational community to create a friendly and dynamic environment, suitable for the development of our children at school. The APE presentation clarifies the school management structure, the roles of different school bodies and those of parents, and contains practical information about life in Belgrade as well as the calendar of APE activities; contributions can be made by emailing the APE at ncr@rso.ef.
