Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Blue House first opened in 2008 in a small shophouse on River Valley Road as a Reggio Emilia–inspired preschool. Over the years, the school expanded to other sites, including a long-standing presence at Turf City. In 2022, Blue House returned to River Valley with the Jalan Mutiara campus, continuing its early years programmes for children aged 18 months to 6 years. Today, it operates as part of a network that also includes Tanglin and East Coast (Rambai).

Community

The Blue House community includes families, educators, artists-in-residence, and service partners who collaborate in shaping school life. Community events such as cultural celebrations (e.g., Mid-Autumn Festival) and seasonal school gatherings are highlighted in its news updates. Parents are regularly invited to engage in classroom life through exhibitions, shared documentation, and open events.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school does not describe a formal Parent Teacher Association (PTA) on its website. However, it does highlight family involvement through events, classroom documentation, and collaborative projects between children and parents. Parents are invited to attend community events and participate in celebrations that bring together educators and families. Opportunities for dialogue are also created through the school’s approach of documenting children’s work, which is shared with parents. While there is no mention of structured PTA groups or committees, the school fosters family-school collaboration in line with its community-focused philosophy.

Blue House International’s River Valley (Jalan Mutiara) campus serves children 18 months–6 years in a homelike, two-storey setting near Great World City and Fort Canning Hill. The school is Reggio Emilia–inspired, with an emergent, bilingual Mandarin–English curriculum delivered by Mandarin and English educators working together. Children learn in curated indoor and outdoor Ateliers and Piazzas, with published educator-to-child ratios from 1:6 (Playgroup) to 1:10 (Kindergarten). Programmes run half-day or full-day, and 2025 fees are S$1,915–S$2,308 per month before GST. The campus connects with the wider Blue House community’s specialist offerings such as Discover Music and resident artist collaborations. Daily routines, naps, and meals are flexibly arranged in consultation with families. The academic calendar highlights closure days, celebration days, and parent events specific to Jalan Mutiara.
