Blue House International was founded in 2008 with its first campus in River Valley, where it introduced a Reggio Emilia–inspired approach to early childhood education in Singapore. Over time, the school expanded to additional campuses, including Tanglin (Kay Siang Road) and East Coast, to serve families in different parts of the city. The Tanglin campus highlights its distinctive Atelier Under the Sky, integrating outdoor and forest-school elements into daily learning. The school continues to be privately operated and has grown its community offerings alongside its preschool programmes.
Blue House describes itself as both a preschool and a community hub, with initiatives that extend beyond the classroom. Community offerings include the Blue House Nursery & Infant and Toddler Atelier, the Reggio Emilia–inspired Karung Guni Recycling Centre, and collaborations with Resident Artists. These initiatives provide families and children with creative, environmental, and cultural connections within and beyond the school setting.
The school website does not mention a formal Parent Teacher Association (PTA). However, families are actively involved in community initiatives and events, such as fundraisers, school festivals, and parent-led contributions to special projects. Examples include support for the annual Music Festival, participation in community walks, and parent involvement in “Discover Classes” and school outings. Parent volunteers also contribute food, time, and expertise during school celebrations and fundraising activities. While not a structured PTA, this collaborative involvement reflects a high level of family engagement in school life.
Blue House International – Tanglin (Kay Siang Road) is a preschool for children 18 months to 6 years set in a black-and-white bungalow near Tanglin Road, with gardens and a Community Park used daily for learning. The campus follows a Reggio Emilia–inspired, bilingual (English–Mandarin) emergent curriculum, with English and Mandarin educators collaborating along children’s lines of inquiry. Published educator-to-child ratios range from 1:6 in Playgroup to 1:10 in Kindergarten, and the day includes indoor ateliers, a mud kitchen, a library and shared piazza spaces. Families can opt for Half Day or Full Day programmes; the school partners with BusTech Pte Ltd for bus services. A signature feature at Tanglin is the “Atelier Under the Sky”—an outdoor classroom that blends Reggio practice with forest-school elements in the adjacent park. Optional Discover Classes with specialist educators in Art, Music and Mandarin extend children’s interests across the week.
