Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school emphasizes social and emotional learning by integrating academic learning with emotional and social growth. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, performing arts, and community service, are embedded within the curriculum to promote a balanced skill set. The school also incorporates the Virtues Project into daily interactions, teaching students about virtues and encouraging them to practice these values. Weekly routines include peer-to-peer affirmations using virtues language, and character lessons are conducted to reinforce these principles.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Invictus International School is an inclusive institution that supports students with moderate learning needs. The school offers career counseling and pastoral counseling support for students with socio-emotional needs. While the school provides support for various learning challenges, it is not a specialist SEN institution.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Invictus International School offers tailored support for students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) needs. The school provides small group sessions during and after school hours, led by EAL specialists, to assist students in developing their English proficiency. This approach ensures that non-native English speakers can effectively access the mainstream curriculum and fully participate in school life. Additionally, the school offers an English Immersion Programme (EIP) aimed at developing strong language skills in students, fostering bilingual global citizens.

Mental Wellbeing

The school promotes positive mental health and wellbeing for the entire school community, recognizing its importance in enabling students to fulfill their potential. A dedicated counsellor is available to offer guidance and support through appointments and drop-in sessions. Additionally, pastoral and safeguarding staff are on hand to assist students with their socio-emotional needs. The school also organizes parent coffee mornings and training sessions on various wellbeing topics, fostering a supportive environment for both students and their families.

Safeguarding

IIS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, expecting all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school has designated safeguarding leaders who have undergone specific training to handle safeguarding concerns. Staff members receive regular training, updates, and information on safeguarding procedures to ensure they are well-informed about the latest practices. All staff are required to share any concerns about a child's safety or well-being with the designated safeguarding leaders, ensuring that potential issues are identified and addressed promptly. The school's safeguarding policy outlines the expectations for working with children and families, and there is a staff code of conduct that sets clear expectations for behavior and actions of all adults at the school. The school also collaborates with external agencies, such as social care, health, and the police, when necessary to support children and families.
