Josiah Montessori was started by three engineers who sought to combine a business venture with solving their wives' difficulties finding a good preschool. Josiah Montessori began in March 1997. The founders emphasised partnership with parents. Since then, Josiah has expanded to multiple centres across Singapore, including Suntec City Mall (Suntec), Changi Business Park, Aperia, Pasir Ris, Tampines Mart, and Raffles Place. The Alexandra campus, Josiah Montessori Alexandra, is located at 456 Alexandra Rd, Fragrance Empire Building.
Parental engagement is central to the Josiah community, with frequent updates about a child's daily life and progress. The Josiah environment combines Montessori learning with the Musical Arts Programme (MAP), which includes five elements—Dance, Vocals, Classical Music Appreciation, Art, and Chinese Speech & Drama—in English and Mandarin. Bilingualism in English and Mandarin is a core focus in daily learning. Public testimonials highlight parental engagement and the care provided by staff.
Parental involvement is described through formal channels and programs rather than a stand-alone PTA. The Josiah Story frames parents as partners in raising champions. Josiah Care provides inclusive support for families with children with learning or developmental disabilities within centres. Josiah Enrich offers phonetics and mathematics enrichment under the guidance of Montessori-trained educators. Josiah Online provides an in-house online learning companion for home activities. MAP comprises five elements—Dance, Vocals, Classical Music Appreciation, Art, and Chinese Speech & Drama—delivered in English and Mandarin.
Josiah Montessori follows the Montessori philosophy, emphasizing independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child's natural development. The curriculum is enhanced by the in-house developed Musical Arts Programme (MAP), which integrates performing arts to instill essential values. The school caters to children from 2 months to 6 years old, with programs segmented into Infants (2 months–18 months), Toddlers (18 months–3 years), Kindergarten (3–5 years), and Pre-Primary (6 years).
