Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Josiah Montessori was started in March 1997 by three engineers who were friends in an MNC company. They sought to create a preschool that combined Montessori principles with a nurturing environment for young children. The name Josiah reflects a biblical king whose upbringing inspired the founders' emphasis on guidance, care, and potential in every child. The Josiah Associates Pte Ltd group has grown a network of centres across Singapore, united by a common pedagogy known as The Josiah Way, which blends Montessori learning with an in-house Musical Arts Programme. The Josiah Story documents these origins and emphasizes parental partnership as a core element of its mission.

Community

Josiah places a strong emphasis on partnership with parents within a loving, structured environment that supports independence and holistic growth. The Josiah Way outlines an atmosphere of freedom, independence, familiarity and harmony designed to nurture self-directed learners. Parental engagement is reinforced by regular updates on children's learning, including personalised daily progress logs to document each child's learning journey. Open Houses and multi-centre cultural celebrations provide families with opportunities to engage with teachers and the Josiah community. Across centres, cultural events such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival are held, and family participation is encouraged. Open House events invite families to tour centres and meet staff.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Josiah Way formalizes parent partnership as a core principle, with ongoing communication and parental involvement at the heart of the school's approach. Parents receive regular updates on their child's learning, aided by personalised daily progress logs that document each child's learning journey. Josiah Enrich and Josiah Online provide structured learning touchpoints that families can engage with at home, extending the school's curriculum beyond the classroom. Open Houses and cultural celebrations across Josiah centres offer additional opportunities for parents to connect with teachers and participate in school life. The school's testimonials and long-standing presence—over 25 years—reflect a stable, engaged parent and community network.
