St. Joseph's Institution (SJI) International Preschool was established to continue the early childhood education legacy of the former Maris Stella Kindergarten. The preschool operates as the youngest member of the broader SJI International family of schools. It is governed under the ownership of SJI International and remains deeply rooted in the Lasallian Catholic tradition. By taking over the historical site of Maris Stella, the preschool preserves the location's long-standing heritage while integrating modern early years educational practices.
The SJI International Preschool community is highly inclusive, welcoming students, families, and staff from a wide variety of faiths, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds. The community regularly comes together for cultural and heritage events, such as the annual Founder's Day Dinner which celebrates the life of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Families also actively participate in hands-on community gatherings, such as the recent Farm to Table Experience, where parents and children explored culinary and sustainable practices together.
The school does not publicly disclose information regarding a formal Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or specific PTA-led committees. However, parents are actively encouraged to engage with the school community through regular daily communications and scheduled parent-teacher conferences held throughout the year.
SJI International Preschool caters to children aged 2 to 6, offering a full-day, inquiry-based curriculum structured around eight transdisciplinary learning domains. The school operates a Bilingual Literacy Programme where every classroom is staffed by at least one English-speaking and one Mandarin-speaking educator simultaneously throughout the day. Located on Holland Road, the campus integrates natural greenery to support specific outdoor initiatives. A notable feature of the school is its Outdoor Learning Programme, which includes hands-on urban farming and an Aquaponics Programme, allowing students to learn about sustainability through practical farm-to-table concepts. The school also incorporates a Pastoral Care Programme anchored by the Virtues Project. This framework introduces 22 specific virtues tied to the institution's core Lasallian Catholic values: Faith, Service, Community, Excellence, and Respect. Students meeting the necessary criteria are offered priority admission to the SJI International Elementary School for their primary education.
