Odyssey The Global Preschool was first established in Singapore in 2008, beginning with the Wilkinson campus. Its founding was inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy after the leadership team visited the exhibition “The Hundred Languages of Children” and undertook study trips to Reggio Emilia in Italy. Since then, Odyssey has expanded with several campuses across Singapore, including Fourth Avenue, Loyang, Still Road, Orchard, and Dempsey, as well as a branch in Mont Kiara, Malaysia. The Dempsey campus is the newest in the group and is described as its first forest-school style setting, with recognition in 2023 as an Outstanding Centre for Teaching and Learning.
The school emphasises parent partnerships and community engagement as core values across its campuses. The Dempsey site highlights its distinctive learning spaces, such as the Piazza, Atelier, Jam Studio, Children’s Museum, La Cucina, and large outdoor areas, which form the backdrop for much of the school’s community activity. While it is clear that the design and approach encourage cultural, artistic, and outdoor-focused events, the school does not publicly list specific community gatherings, celebrations, or festivals unique to the Dempsey campus.
Odyssey has a Parent Support Group (PSG@Odyssey) made up of volunteer parents, a PSG Teacher Coordinator, and the Centre Director. The group meets every two months to coordinate campus events, projects, workshops, and seminars. Parents are invited to participate in the classroom in a variety of ways, such as storytelling, puppetry sessions, cooking demonstrations, show-and-tells, or helping with hands-on projects. From the school’s founding in January 2008, the PSG has been part of building family engagement, recognising parents as partners with unique knowledge about their children.
Odyssey, The Global Preschool at Dempsey provides early childhood education for children aged 18 months to 6 years, following the Reggio Emilia-inspired curriculum. The campus offers a unique forest-themed learning environment within Singapore's historic Dempsey Hill. Notable facilities include an Atelier for creative arts, a Jam Studio for music exploration, and extensive outdoor spaces that transform the surrounding forest into an extension of the classroom. A distinctive feature is the full Chinese language immersion program, with dedicated Chinese language teachers in every class, promoting bilingual proficiency from an early age.
