Asian International School was founded by Mr. W. P. Perera. He was approached by a group of businessmen to chair a proposed International School and named the institution Asian International School. AIS was totally his creation and he undertook the enormous financial burden of building such an Institution. He had begun life as a Tea Planter and, having worked under British employers, was well versed in British methods of organization. His name is remembered by many students as the founder whose vision established AIS.
AIS offers a wide range of clubs and societies, including Interfaith Society, MUN (Seniors), Go Green Club (Junior), P.A.W.S. (Proactive Animal Welfare Society), AIS Community Service Association, Junior English Lit. Association, Debating Club, Junior Choir, and other activity groups. The Clubs & Societies page lists activities across academics, arts, service, and leadership, with examples such as Chess (Juniors), Chess (Seniors), Movement Society, JAM Music Society, Drama Club, Oriental Dance Club, and AIS Gavel Club (Toastmasters). Life at AIS also includes sports and inter-school events, including the Inter School Swimming Meet.
