Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

AIS integrates academic learning with social and emotional development. The Middle School explicitly combines academics with social and emotional learning to build a foundation for happiness and life success. The Upper School maintains an inclusive, diverse environment and has a committed team of professionals to address learning as well as behavioral difficulties in support of student wellbeing. The Junior School emphasizes developing cognitive and social and emotional skills to interact harmoniously with peers and adults. Students engage in co-curricular activities such as drama, debating, singing, dancing and musical theatre, as well as sports and community service, to foster teamwork, resilience and personal growth.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

AIS employs staff with qualifications in Special Needs Education and learning difficulties. The Head of Junior School holds a Diploma in Special Needs Education, and other senior and junior school staff have related qualifications, including a Diploma in Special Needs Education and a Diploma in Montessori Education. Some staff also hold a Certificate in Teaching Children with Learning Difficulties (OUSL). This demonstrates an inclusive approach with trained personnel to support diverse learning needs.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The school provides English language instruction supported by staff with English Language Teaching qualifications. The Academic Staff includes teachers with a Diploma in English Language Teaching. AIS also follows the British National Curriculum, which is typically delivered in English.

Mental Wellbeing

AIS supports student mental wellbeing through a holistic and inclusive learning environment. The Middle School states that education combines academic learning with social and emotional learning to support happiness and fulfillment. The Upper School notes a committed group of professionals to address learning as well as behavioral difficulties, contributing to student wellbeing. The Junior School emphasizes developing social and emotional skills to interact with others in a positive, secure environment.

Safeguarding

The school has a zero-tolerance policy on bullying and a formal safeguarding framework. It is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all students and promotes inclusion through initiatives such as TASLAH (Take a Stand and Lend a Hand). Staff are trained to look for signs of distress, trauma and abuse to facilitate intervention, and safeguarding is linked to welfare and overall wellbeing across the school community.
