The co-curricular programme includes many clubs and societies across Gateway College Negombo and other campuses. Students acquire soft skills by participating in these activities, especially teamwork and leadership. Co-curricular activities are recognised at College Awards Day, and Gateway encourages participation in national and international events, including the Colombo Model United Nations (COMUN), Harvard MUN, and MUN at The Hague. This approach strengthens learning beyond the traditional curriculum.
Drama Club, Art Club, and Photography Club are among the arts offerings. A Journalist/ Broadcasting unit and a Choir club are also part of the co-curriculars. The English Literary Society and the French Club provide language-linked creative activities. Art-focused groups include the Art Club and the Artastic Club.
Buddhist Society, Christian Society, Hindu Society, and Islamic Society are active across campuses. Religious and Cultural Activities include Vesak lanterns, Bhakthi Gee, Dhamma discussions, Islamic Day, Christmas Carols, Saraswathi Pooja, and Holi. Avurudu celebrations are a school-wide annual event. French Club and English Literary Society are among the language and culture offerings.
Interact Club is listed among the clubs, along with Debating and Model United Nations (MUN) activities. General Knowledge Club, Geography Club, History Society, Scrabble Club, and Astronomy Club (and Aviation Club) are also part of the programme. Robotics and other science/tech-oriented clubs are included as well. These clubs support informal interests and social engagement across campuses.
Community Service Club is part of the co-curricular offering. The programme includes First Aid Society and St John's Ambulance service to promote volunteering and service. The clubs foster social responsibility and opportunities to contribute to the wider community.
MUN Club and Debating Club develop public speaking and argumentation skills. Toastmasters and Broadcasting is a leadership and communication-oriented activity. Interact Club and Guiding/Sea Scouting provide leadership and service opportunities. These activities support students in developing professional skills and leadership capacities.
The Mindfulness programme has been in place for three years in the Secondary school, with five minutes of mindfulness in the morning and three minutes for Primary students. MindUp is introduced from 2022 onwards during HomeRoom sessions. Mindfulness activities include mindful listening, breathing, seeing, body scanning, and gratitude. Religious observances after intervals and cultural celebrations (e.g., Vesak, Avurudu) are integral to student life.
Gateway College Negombo is a co-educational international school serving ages 2 to 18. Established in 2007, it sits beside the Negombo lagoon and offers a Foundation to Graduation framework from Play Group to Degree Level. The curriculum is modeled on the English National Curriculum, with local content in history, culture and civil society, and it includes British IGCSE, Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS and A Levels, and BTEC qualifications. The program integrates academics, sports, co-curricular activities and personal development through a Curriculum Prism designed to prepare students for university and life. The campus features extensive facilities, including a 50-metre swimming pool, libraries, science and design technology laboratories, an Innovation Studio, an auditorium and ICT suites, with interactive whiteboards and BYOD at A Level. A rich co-curricular programme supports debating, MUN, drama, robotics, languages and service, with recognition at COMUN and participation in national and international events for students worldwide today.
