Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Royal Institute International School was founded in 1971 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In 1982 it was established as a private limited liability company providing international education and introduced London O-Level and A-Level courses along with computer education. In 1991 the Royal Institute of Colombo began diploma and degree programmes with the University of London. The Nugegoda branch opened in 1993, the Department of English was established in 1997, Maharagama branch opened in 2005, and the Girls' School at Maya Avenue opened in 2008. The Gampaha branch followed in 2013; in 2008 Royal Institute was awarded Affiliate Centre status by the University of London; a Nursery section was established in 2013 at Stanley Thilakaratne Mawatha, Nugegoda; the school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019.

Community

Royal Institute runs a range of clubs and societies across branches. The Interact Club has expanded from the Havelock Town branch to Nugegoda and Maharagama and coordinates community service projects with a 22‑member head board led by Ahmed Noohu (President), Kalindi Gamage (Vice President), and Arosheny Puvanenthirajah (Secretary). The Model United Nations (RIMUN) is among the school's most decorated clubs, with delegates including Rayhan Malik, Sanara Galhenage and Samathi Rajakaruna; Nugegoda is co‑presided by Sanara and Samathi, while Havelock Town is led by Rayhan Malik. The Mathematics Club, Drama Circle, Media Club, Quiz Club, IT Society, Astronomy Club, and other student groups are active and provide opportunities for competitions and performances; other clubs include the Young Global Researchers, Little Friends, Social Service Society, Art Club, Debate Club, Sinhala Club, Buddhist Society, Hindu Society, Islamic Society and Science Society.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parents' Forum functions as the Parents' Association at Royal Institute, strengthening the family‑based approach to holistic education in partnership with the Career Guidance Unit. Vibrant events include the Annual Art Competition and Ridma Extravaganza.

Royal Institute International School in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a private international school educating students from ages 2 to 18.
