Stafford International School traces its heritage to 1986, when it became one of Sri Lanka's pioneers in introducing the British curriculum for international education. Stafford College, founded in 1959 by philanthropist Felix R. De Zoysa, provided higher education for students unable to gain admission to government schools. In 1986 the school adopted the Stafford International School name and became a pioneer in delivering the British National Curriculum in Sri Lanka, moving to 37 Guildford Crescent, Colombo 7. In 2015 Stafford became an approved Cambridge International Examinations center. In 2019 the school began offering both Cambridge IGCSE and Edexcel IAL examinations as an approved center for both boards.
