Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Engelska Skolan Norr was established in 1993 as the first independent school in Sweden to follow the national curriculum while providing its students with in-depth knowledge of the English language. It was the first in Sweden to offer a bilingual programme with half of all lessons conducted in English. Ninth grade students have the opportunity to prepare for and graduate with the Cambridge Exam in English. The school's vision is based on four integrated performance areas that work together to provide a sound education and prepare graduates for further studies in Sweden and abroad. Since October 2013, Engelska Skolan Norr has been part of the Atvexa group.

Community

Grade 6–9 education takes place in a historic learning environment with homeroom classrooms that provide optimal learning conditions and a sense of safety and comfort. There are always two mentors in each class, and teaching uses digital tools with each student provided a Chromebook. Students can participate in creative learning forums such as a school choir and a school band. The school collaborates with Vetenskapens Hus (The House of Science) to offer activities in science, mathematics, and technology in a university setting. In Grade 9, students have the opportunity to earn a Cambridge English degree. The school offers an After-School Fritids programme for students in F‑Class through Grade 5 to promote healthy living, environmental awareness, and lasting friendships. The library houses over 9,000 carefully selected books in multiple languages to support language development and learning.

Engelska Skolan Norr is a two-campus independent school in Stockholm's Östermalm, serving ages 6 to 18. It follows the Swedish national curriculum with a bilingual program in which roughly half of all lessons are taught in English. The ninth grade can prepare for and graduate with Cambridge English qualifications, and Cambridge IGCSE offers additional external options. Established in 1993 as Sweden's first independent school to follow the national curriculum while delivering in-depth English language education, ESN Norr joined the Atvexa group in 2013. The Roslagstullsbacken and Alba Nova campuses accommodate about 540 pupils, with each student receiving a Chromebook and access to a library of over 9,000 books. A Vetenskapens Hus partnership provides university-level science, mathematics and technology activities. In 2024–25 ESN Norr became a Cambridge Associate School and operates an IGCSE examination centre for external candidates; from 2025, ESL, Maths and English Literature IGCSE courses are available. Approximately 95% progress to university follows Cambridge qualifications.
