Internationella Engelska Skolan was founded in 1993, and three core beliefs have shaped the schools ever since: mastery of English, high academic expectations and ambitions, and a calm and safe learning environment. English is a world language, and mastering both English and Swedish from an early age provides long‑term advantages; up to half of teaching is conducted in English by teachers whose first language is English. As of 2024/2025, there are 47 schools with about 30,000 students; about 85% of teachers are qualified (roughly six in ten hold Swedish teaching degrees and the rest from other countries). Approximately 91% of Year 9 students are eligible for upper secondary education. According to the School Act, foreign‑qualified teachers are counted as qualified when teaching in English in non‑language subjects; language teachers have additional requirements to be considered qualified.
IES fosters a dynamic and inclusive school community. The Lund site describes the PTA as a community for all parents and school staff, with the PTA board consisting of volunteer parents and class representatives elected at the start of the school year; the board and class reps meet about six times during the school year, and meetings and protocols are published on SchoolSoft. The PTA meeting is a forum for discussion of topics related to students, the school and the environment, with input from parents and staff. The PTA aims to make students' time at school a fantastic memory for life, ensure that staff feel respected and appreciated, and enable parental involvement in the school's development. The PTA has a Facebook page (PTA IES Lund) and an email address for contact.
PTA Board for 2025/2026 (Lund) includes Otto Thott — Chair; Camilla Kampf — Vice chair; Kata Sjöstedt — Treasurer; Roula Nicolas Ibrahim — Board member; Magnus Pålsson — Board member; Layla Husain — Board member; Ephrem Bassil — Board member; Behzad Nateghi-Gillberg — Board member; Charlie Barrefors — Alternate member; Emma Axklo — Alternate member. The PTA operates to connect home and school, with regular meetings and collaboration between guardians, class representatives, and school management; it also maintains a contact point via Facebook and email.

A Junior Club provides after-school care, and tutorials and after-school clubs extend the day. The School House System is a distinctive feature within the IES network, promoting teamwork, shared values, and healthy competition. The Green Flag Committee supports sustainability projects, and a broad range of clubs supports science, arts, and social activities.
