Academic International School was established in 1994 as a private, English-medium school offering nursery through A-level classes. There are three registered schools—Academic International Nursery School, Academic International Primary School, and Academic International Secondary School—that share administrative arrangements in many areas. The school is affiliated with Cambridge International Education (CIE) and the Independent Schools Examinations Board (ISEB), UK. The school year runs from mid-August/September to June, with a long vacation from July to August and shorter holidays around Christmas and Easter; Grade VII and A-level students begin the year earlier in July. Landmark dates show milestones from 1994 to 2009, including the start of Pre-K in 2009.
Regular relations are maintained through the School Committee, newsletters, and school magazines. Parent-teacher meetings are held in each term, and there are annual general parents meetings. Academic International School (AIS) offers early-years to upper-secondary education in international community. Nursery provides an inclusive program supporting academic, social and physical development, while the Primary School follows a rigorous UK ISSEB syllabus with core subjects English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies; Grades II–III add Kiswahili, French and ICT; Grades IV–VII expand with Geography, Civics, History, French and ICT. The Secondary School, affiliated with Cambridge International Education, delivers Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge GCE AS & A Level programs with wide range of subjects including English, French, Swahili, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, History, Economics, Accounting and Business Studies. The school operates three registered divisions—Academic International Nursery School, Primary School, and Secondary School—sharing administrative arrangements. Established in 1994, AIS serves an international student body and follows a year that runs from mid-August/September to June, with July–August holidays.
