Haven of Peace Academy was conceived in prayer by five missionary families in 1992 to establish a Christian school in Dar es Salaam. It opened in September 1994 on a rented Oyster Bay plot with 47 students and 4 teachers. Growth followed quickly, with Grade 7 added in 1997 and a move to the Kunduchi campus in 2001; the secondary program became a Cambridge International Examination Center in 2004 and produced its first IGCSE results in 2005. Ongoing campus development and strategic plans—Vision 2010 and HOPAC 20—accompanied continued growth, including new facilities such as a learning resource center and a performing arts building. The school is private, fully-accredited, non-profit, and serves Kindergarten through Grade 12, with licensed native English-speaking teachers and a Christian perspective.
Community at HOPAC is diverse and international, with nearly 400 students from over 30 nationalities and teachers from various countries, many of them evangelical Christians. Service Learning is integrated across the school, with the secondary program partnering weekly with local schools, NGOs, orphanages, hospitals and mission organizations. The school emphasizes authentic community through diversity and shared Christian values. The 2023-2024 school year marked HOPAC's 30th anniversary.
