Immersion uses a target language (French or Spanish) as the medium for content instruction; English is the native language students otherwise use. Kindergarten and 1st grade spend about 90% of daily instruction in the target language. Grades 2-5 spend about 80% of daily instruction in the target language, with English Language Arts added for 60 minutes daily (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Target Language Arts are in the target language). In middle school, about 25% of the day is in the immersion language, English becomes the language of instruction for Social Studies and Science, Mathematics remains taught in the target language, and students take Target Language Arts and English Language Arts in equal amounts. A three-year sequence of a critical language (such as Mandarin) begins in middle school. About 35% of the day is spent in a language other than English.
French and Spanish target languages are offered; students are taught in either French or Spanish and learn their target language through immersion starting in Kindergarten.
French and Spanish immersion is offered; St. Roch Campus and Uptown Campus offer French and Spanish immersion, while Westbank Campus offers Spanish immersion.
