Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

There are over forty clubs meeting throughout the week, including Math, Science, Art and Chess. The Senior Saturday Morning Program for Seniors includes debating and public speaking. The Fukuzawa Chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes students for scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Arts and Creative

Instrumental music lessons are arranged throughout the week, underpinning a program of concerts. The Junior Saturday Morning Program includes art, singing and music appreciation. Clubs include Rock Band, Dance and Art.

Cultural and Language

There are clubs representing Japanese culture, including Tea Ceremony and Calligraphy. Our language program is bilingual; all classes except for Japanese are taught in English, with immersion to develop bilingual learning.

Social and Hobbies

There are over forty clubs meeting throughout the week, including Art, Calligraphy, Chess, Creative Workshops, Dance, Kendo, Math, Science, Tea Ceremony and Rock Band. A wide variety of clubs and societies, including Japanese culture, chess and the student newspaper, run on Wednesday afternoons. Outings to galleries and theaters are a frequent feature on Sunday afternoons.

Community and Service

The Academy promotes service learning and encourages volunteer activities for the communities. Food drives and Toy Drives have become annual traditions, with donations distributed to people in need. The cancer walk is another charity event students participate in each year, and students engage in local events and support community groups.

Leadership and Professional

The Fukuzawa Chapter of the National Honor Society recognizes students for scholarship, leadership, service and character. NHS membership is by nomination and application and includes a formal ceremony. The Senior Saturday Morning Program includes public speaking and debating competitions.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

A full range of varsity sports and house sports is provided, with fixtures against other schools. Sports offered include volleyball, basketball, cross country, tennis and lacrosse, among others. Outings to galleries and theaters are frequent on Sunday afternoons, and wellness activities include yoga, weight-room sessions and walking/running.
