Facilities Overview

The LMS campus covers 23 acres in total, including 19 acres purchased in 2018 that comprise woods, streams, wetlands and an athletic field. Outdoor classrooms and play spaces are used across the curriculum. An A-Frame meeting space sits on the 19 acres for group lessons. The campus features a greenhouse with a 26‑foot growing dome unveiled in 2015, plus a Farming program, a Food Forest and maple sap taps. Outdoor education field studies are offered through trips to Nature's Classroom for Lower Elementary, the Hulbert Center in Fairlee, VT for Upper Elementary, and Kroka Expeditions in Marlow, NH for Middle School.

Sports Facilities

Upper Elementary and Middle School students may join LMS sports teams. LMS participates in the Montessori Athletic Conference (BIG MAC). Middle School athletics use off‑campus facilities for 2.5 hours weekly, including Swimming at Waltham YMCA, Rock Climbing at Central Rock Gym, Rowing at Community Rowing, Fencing at Boston Fencing Club, Archery at Archery USA, Tennis at Waltham Athletic Club, Golf at Stone Meadow Golf, and Fitness/Strength Training at Athletic Evolution.

Academic Facilities

The school has Montessori-certified teachers who meet students where they are and support their discoveries while following Maria Montessori and embracing technology and progression. Academic Support is provided by experienced adults on campus. The average class ratio is 6:1. METTC, the Montessori Elementary Teacher Training Collaborative, operates on campus for eight weeks each summer.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Before and After School Program (BASP) provides care before and after school and enrichment activities, including a Siblings program. Summer at LMS includes METTC teacher training and Horizons @ LMS, which offers a Montessori work cycle, pool time at Waltham YMCA three times weekly, and enrichment classes in art, farming, music and physical education. Primary students also have weekly Spanish and Music as part of core curriculum, with additional Art and PE offerings.

Lexington Montessori School is an independent day school serving children from 21 months to 14 years. It delivers Montessori pedagogy in classrooms guided by certified Montessori educators, with students learning through self-discovery. The curriculum spans Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language and Cultural Studies, and integrates anti-bias education across all learning. In addition to core Montessori work, students participate in art, farming, library, music, physical education and a Spanish language program. The campus hosts METTC, the Montessori Elementary Teacher Training Collaborative, on site for eight weeks each summer, and Horizons@LMS as a Horizons National affiliate. The community emphasizes outdoor learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, and maintains small class sizes with an average 6:1 ratio.
